    WHAT IS MONTESSORI
The Montessori Method is a child-centred, alternative educational method base on the child-development theories by Italian educator Maria Montessori (1870-1952.)

The key concept of the Montessori philosophy is that children instinctively want to develop their skills and understanding, and that they should therefore be provided with opportunities to do so independently at a time which is right for them.

Independence is a key concept. Rather than impose a fixed curriculum that simply satisfies the teachers need for structure, Maria found that children are natural learners if they are allowed the freedom to pursue what interests them at the right time.

    START TIMES AND NURSERY CAPACITY

    SCHOOL HOURS ARE FROM 9:10 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

All children must arrive at school no later than 9:20 a.m.

The Morning Circle begins promptly at 9:25 a.m. To ensure a structured and uninterrupted learning environment, no child will be allowed to enter the school premises after 9:25 a.m.

CHILDREN WHO ARRIVE AT SCHOOL AFTER THE MENTIONNED HOURS WILL UNFORTUNATELY NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER SCHOOL PREMISES, UNLESS THERE IS A VALID REASON SUCH AS MEDICAL APPOINTMENT.

LITTLE JUDY EARLY LEARNING CENTRE is open from 08:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Friday to coincide with local schools term dates. Due to health and safety there are no parking facilities on school grounds for parents.

There is a canteen serving delicious and nutrient menus prepared by a well qualified chef. Monthly menu is displayed on the notice board and same is given to each child at month's end for coming one. Religious preferences may be catered for. ( upon prior discussion with parents ).

Due to financial commitment of the nursery it is necessary that all parents / guardians pay their child’s fees promptly. So we will ensure that a direct debit is to be set up prior to the child admission.

We can accommodate a maximum of 100 children. Places are limited, and we operate a strict code of first to register, first to secure a place.

    EDUCATIONAL PROVISION
We know parents are the child’s first educators and role models in their learning and development. We recognise this can be a challenge and will continue to work with you sharing advice and information.

At The LITTLE JUDY EARLY LEARNING CENTRE the education is broad and balanced with areas of learning, allowing opportunities to develop the child socially, personally and academically.

Through developing a positive attitude within the children for enjoyment and confidence in their skills and activities, we try to ensure a natural progression into primary school.

We operate a keyworker system. Each keyworker has special responsibility for a small group of children. Parents and children know the name of the keyworker and she will ensure that the individual needs of the children are being met within the group. The children will continue to work with all the staffs, but the special role of the keyworker is detailed below:

    1. A keyworker is allocated to each child and his/her family.
    2. They help to introduce each child and his/her family into the setting.
    3. They assist each child to settle into the setting.
    4. They talk with parents to learn about the particular needs of each child. This will include children with medical or dietary requirements and children’s special words, early language, interests and routines, likes and dislikes.
    5. The keyworker liaises with parents on a regular basis to make sure that important information is exchanged during the settling in period.
    6. Keyworkers keep a watchful eye on children during their settling in period.
    7. They aim to develop a rapport with parents so that exchange of valuable information is frequently made from home to the school and vice versa.
    8. They help children to join in the activities at their appropriate level.
    9. They make sure that all the children’s birthdays are celebrated.
    10. They make sure that planned activities cater for the developmental needs of the children in their keyworker group, and each child’s religion, race, culture and family values are taken into account at all stages of the setting’s planning.
    11. They aim to be available at the beginning and end of sessions, and possibly on specified dates to discuss individual children.
    12. They make observations of the children in the keyworker group in order to keep written records of achievement. These records, which can include contributions from home, are shared with the parents to enable the keyworker to plan for the child’s developmental progress.
    13. KEYWORKERS WORK UNDER THE SETTINGS’ POLICY OF CONFIDENTIALITY.

    STARTING THE FIRST DAYS
As caring practitioners we help children’s learning by knowing that they learn most effectively when they are actively involved and interested. A child who is tense or unhappy will be unable to play or learn, so it is important for parents and pre-school/nursery staff to work together to help the child to feel confident and secure in the group. This takes longer for some children than for others and parents should not feel worried if their child takes a while to settle. If you feel at all anxious, please feel free to phone on (230) 6310 473. We invite parents/carers to join us at any time or if a confidential matter needs discussion in private, all parents/carers are encouraged to telephone Steven (director) to talk through any concerns and if necessary make an appointment at a mutually convenient time.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Monteressori Stage principles for all the children’s learning which will carry on until they leave the nursery.

    CLOTHING
Children will become involved in a range of activities, both physical and creative. Comfortable but easily washable clothing is important so that your child can confidently take part in these activities. This is the reason why we have a uniform policy. The children will feel a sense of security, being part of the nursery. This gives the children an example of equality. Parents are asked to provide a bag with a extra clothes just in case your child's clothes gets wet (e.g spilt drink, water play), we can change your child so they are comfortable.

    CHILD PROTECTION PROCEDURE
As a provider of day care/nursery/early learning, we are required to follow the child protection procedure agreed with the Republic of Mauritius. Our first concern will always be the welfare of your child. All our staffs are checked by the police criminal bureau. All our staffs will be in possession of a Morality certificate from the Govt. of Mauritius.
